About the Album

Matthew West’s fourth studio album, The Story of Your Life, is perhaps the closest thing to a concept album to come out of Christian music in recent years. Following Something To Say, it was inspired by West’s desire to metaphorically turn the microphone around and let his fans share their stories through his gift for songwriting. The end result was the 2010 release of an eleven-song album that tells of heartache and happiness, abuse, divorce, cancer survival and adoption, drawn from over ten thousand letters and emails. Fittingly, the album ends with “The Healing Has Begun”, a song that reassures those whose stories were received that they are forgiven and redeemed from their past by a God of unending mercy. Although The Story of Your Life strayed from Matthew West’s well-known upbeat style of acoustic pop, its raw, organic tone was a welcome change and an appropriate shift for this heart-wrenching and deeply meaningful album.
